Chris Bauman
Have a set of Aluminum Alloy wheels that are badly pitted and the clear coat is de-laminating everywhere. I am removing all the clear coat and paint (chemically) and polishing the surfaces which were previously polished at the factory. I am sanding the aluminum from 200 grit to 1000 grit sandpaper before polishing with compounds and polishing pads (a full restoration of the polished surfaces). The question is will Opti-Coat seal and stick better than clear coat? There are some issues with lacquered clear discoloring or dulling the shine (not sure how good will adhere to the polished aluminum). I have used Opti-Coat on the painted surfaces with great results and want to know what I can expect on the polished aluminum (I have no chrome on my car to test it). Any thoughts? Guest
Chris, Opti-Coat will do your wheels justice for sure, be sure to do multiple IPA wipedowns first, as many metal polishes contain lots of oils.
