rjblake
Hi - new poster here. Had Opti-Coat Pro+ installed a few months back. On a recent trip ended up with few spots of tree sap that has hardened. Tried removing with MDR, PowerClean, ONR without success. Is it safe to use Isopropyl alcohol to remove this without damaging the coating, or any wise suggestions as to an alternative?
Ron@Optimum
IPA should remove sap (any alcohol based product, like hand sanitizer) and it won't hurt Opti-Coat Pro.
Kiddetailer
I am actually amazed optimum power clean didn't effect it. Did you use full strength? What about Ferrex?
Ron@Optimum
FerreX is for ferrous metals...sap is organic. An alcohol based solvent is your best bet.
Kiddetailer
Does optimum have anything in their product line for that?
rjblake
@Ron@Optimum - I used some hand sanitizer as per recommendation, which removed the sap (small droplets of around 1-2 mm). One small problem (only on one spot) where there is now a slight discoloration. Any thoughts?
Ron@Optimum
One suggestion on an Opti-Coated car, leave it in bright sunshine - There've been cases where UV has caused discoloration from water spots to disappear. Otherwise you might try using a light polish (GPS) by hand.
